Introduction

In this lesson, we’re going to find and share interesting information about Boulder, Colorado from the Internet. It is the beginning of our class project to create a reference guide to the history and places of Boulder for new residents from other countries. But today we will start with small steps.

Task

  1. First, look at a completed guide to get an idea of what the final product will be. We will keep it in the classroom during the project for reference.

  2. Next, go over the instructions for this exercise in class and ask questions. Everyone will find the same information from a list of websites.

  3. Each person will select one website of personal interest, write a short piece about it, and present it to the class,

  4. Your teacher will start with a sample worksheet question and demonstrate how to look it up on the Internet making sure everyone understands the task.

Process

1. Fill in answers to questions on your worksheet by finding and reading the websites listed there. Tasks continued
2. Select one website you liked. Write four sentences to describe this website and why you chose it.
3. As a class, we will discuss answers to the worksheet questions.
4. Finally, read aloud what you have written about the website and answer classmates’ questions about your selection.

This web quest is for a mixed level ESL class of beginners and low intermediate students.

Additional Comments

For extra credit, advanced students may select one local historical place from the web quest to visit in person. They will share verbally with the class two things they learned from their visit that they did not find online in the web quest. They will receive 20 points for sharing two things they learned.
